DNA Sequencing: Technical Information

Presented here is information not found anywhere else within our DNA sequencing pages. Although this information is not required for ordering purposes, it may be useful in answering some less frequently asked questions regarding our sequencing services

Sequencing Methods

Sequencing reactions are performed by PCR according to Applied Biosystems (Big Dye Terminator) or Amersham Pharmacia Biotech (ET terminator) protocols. Unincorporated nucleotides are removed by exclusion columns. All samples are processed on either 'slab gel' sequencing instruments (i.e. ABI377XL-96) or capillary sequencing instruments (i.e. ABI3700 or MegaBACE). For additional information please contact
Jason Dobry.

Quality Standards

Quality controls are performed throughout the entire sample processing, insuring the highest quality results possible. All procedures and protocols follow strict QC guidelines. Most of our sequencing reactions will achieve the intended run length (675-750 bp), for an 'average' plasmid DNA sample ('average' means- not severely rich in AT or GC, not low copy number plasmid, not containing a high percentage of microsatellites, hairpins, etc).
