DNA Sequencing: Shipping Recommendations

How To Package Your Samples:

For 15 or fewer samples, submit them in 1.5ml tubes sealed with parafilm. For 16 or more samples, submit them in 8 or 12-strip 0.2ml tubes, or 96-well plates. All strip caps and plate covers must be securely fastened to prevent evaporation and/or contamination during shipping. Crushing and deformation of plate lids/strip caps often occurs during thermocyling when thermocycler bonnets are tightened too hard, and can be a source for evaporation.

Label individual primer tubes with the primer name, concentration, and preparation date.

Label individual sample tubes with sample name, concentration, and preparation date. Please do not place any kind of tape over writing on a tube in an effort to hold numerous samples together, as when we separate the samples, the tape will lift the ink from the tubes.

Label strip tubes with the first and last tube of each strip labeled with the sample name or ID to allow for proper orientation of samples during sequencing.

Send prepared DNA templates by express carrier according to the specific carrier's recommendations for shipping. Templates do not need to be sent on ice.

Place individual 1.5ml tubes inside a 50ml conical tube or other hard vessel to prevent accidental crushing during shipping.
